Open the app on your own iPhone or iPad, create the family and choose a parent PIN. Then tap the gear, enter your PIN, and add each kid, your chores, bonus jobs and rewards.
Not ready to type it all in? On the start screen, Add sample chores, jobs and rewards fills in examples you can edit.
Each chore is worth one to three stars. In the parent area you set a weekly star goal and, if you like, a bonus amount. When a kid reaches the goal, they earn the bonus, and you can mark it paid. Days off shrink the goal to match.
For chores like tidying a bedroom, a kid's tick waits for your OK before the stars count. You'll get a notification, and the chore shows under Waiting for your OK in the parent area, where you can approve it or send it back with Not yet.
Unlock the parent area, open the kid's screen, then touch and hold the chore. A skipped chore doesn't break the kid's streak.
Yes. If a kid has a PIN, Change my PIN appears at the bottom of their screen. They type their current PIN, then the new one twice.
After five wrong tries, a kid's PIN locks for 15 minutes on that device. If they've forgotten it, a parent can set a new one under Parent settings › Kids.
Yes. Tap the gear, enter your parent PIN, and open Help & support. Email support starts an email to us with your app version, device and sync details already filled in, which helps us answer faster. Copy details copies the same information if you'd rather paste it into the form above.
On that device, go to the gear, enter the parent PIN, open This device & sharing, and under This device is a choose a kid's device (then pick the kid) or the family board. A kid's device opens straight to their screen. The board shows everyone side by side and keeps the screen awake.
No. When you open StarChores on another device signed in to the same Apple account, it first checks iCloud for your family, which can take up to 20 seconds, and opens it instead of offering to create a new one.
You can set a new one on a parent's device:
Forgot PIN? doesn't appear on a kid's device or the family board, so kids can't reset it there. This also clears the 15-minute lock that follows five wrong tries. If the device has no passcode, set one in Settings first.
Allow calendar access in Settings > Apps > Chores > Calendars and choose Full Access. Then pick which calendars to show under This device & sharing. To show a shared family calendar on every device, save its link in the parent area instead.
Reminders are set per device under This device & sharing. To turn off all notifications, go to Settings > Notifications > Chores.
On the device that created the family, iCloud sends these alerts even when StarChores is closed. Other parent devices get them when iOS next lets the app check for changes, so they can arrive later.
With iCloud on, your family's data is kept in your iCloud account. Parent devices also save a backup file once a day in the Files app, under On My iPhone > Chores > Backups. You can export or restore a backup any time from the backup section of the parent area.
On the device that created the family, open This device & sharing and tap Delete this family. That removes it from every device and from iCloud. Family members who joined from an invite see Leave this family instead.
